چکیده
Introduction Aortic dissection is a rare and potentially fatal disease. It usually presents with severe chest pain radiating to the back, isolated back pain, or abdominal pain. 1 Atypical symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, syncope, weakness or numbness are uncommon. The prevalence of neurologic symptoms in aortic dissection account for up to 42% of cases. 2 One study revealed that 29% of patients with type A aortic dissection presented with neurologic manifestations, but only two-thirds of these patients reported chest pain. 3 Based on these percentages, approximately 10% of patients present with neurologic symptoms and without chest pain. Neurologic manifestation in aortic dissection included ischemic stroke (16%), ischemic neuropathy (11%), syncope (6%), seizures (3%), hypoxic encephalopathy (2%), and spinal cord ischemia (1%). 3

Acute aortic dissection is a common disease caused by primary tear in the aortic intima or rupture of vasa vasorum. Every year 5-30 per million are affected by that. Untreated aortic dissection (dissecting aortic aneurysm) carries a high mortality rate. More than 90% of acute dissections present with acute pain in chest or back or both. Aortic dissection may mimic other more common conditions...
متن کاملCase Reports: Ischemic Strokes in a Young Woman With Manifestations of Multiple Sclerosis
Background: The current case report aimed at describing the clinical, radiological, and immunological findings of a case of ischemic stroke due to acute thrombosis of the left internal carotid artery and multiple watershed infarctions mimicking Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Clinical Presentation and Intervention: A 24-year-old right-handed Iranian female was initially diagnosed with Multiple Sclero...
متن کاملLeft Mandibular Pain in a Patient of Aortic Dissection Presenting with Acute Ischemic Stroke: a Case Report.
PURPOSE If a patient with aortic dissection (AoD) is inadvertently treated with thrombolytic agents, severe complications and poor outcomes are likely to ensue. We reported a case and postulated mandibular pain as warning sign for diagnosing AoD related stroke. CASE REPORT We report an 81-year-old woman presenting with left mandibular pain followed by left hemiplegia. Extracranial carotid dup...
متن کاملBrain Strokes Related to Aortic Aneurysma – the Analysis of three Cases
Brain stroke connected with aortic blood flow disturbances is a rare disease and its incidence is difficult to assume. Nevertheless, 10-50% of patients with aortic dissection may not experience any pain. In case of 18-30% patients with aortic dissection neurological signs are first disease presentation and among them ischemic stroke is the most common. The most popular aortic dissection classif...
متن کاملIschemic stroke secondary to aortic dissection following rifle butt recoil chest injury: a case report.
Ischemic stroke secondary to aortic dissection is not uncommon. We present a patient with left hemiplegia secondary to Stanford type A aortic dissection extending to the supra-aortic vessels, which was precipitated by rifle butt recoil chest injury. The diagnosis of aortic dissection was delayed due to various factors. Finally, the patient underwent successful Bentall procedure with complete re...
